Barely twenty-four hours after suspected gunmen killed about eight persons at the weekend in Ozochi community in Ahoada East community of Rivers State, another five persons yesterday were killed in Ibaa Community, Emohua Local Government Area of the state following a reprisal attack by suspected cult group in the area.
At about 11pm on Sunday, some gunmen alleged to be members of Deygbam cult group had visited Ibaa community under a heavy gunfire killing five persons.
The names of the deceased were given as Dirinna, ThankGod Obisike, Kpomasiruchi, Mr Prince Nyenke and one other person whose name is yet to be ascertained.
A source, Mr Amaobi Kenneth said the gunmen had invaded the community in reprisal against its rival cult group, the Icelanders.
Kenneth continued that the gunmen laid siege to the community and operated freely without interruption from any quarters. He noted that the strange visitors were moving from house to house in search of Icelanders members.
Another source, who pleaded anonymity from the community, said that the Icelanders had two years ago chased out Deygbam from their camp in the community and taken over the place, noting that the incident that took place from Sunday night till yesterday morning was an alleged reprisal from the Deygbam cult group to take over their seized camp.
“The thing that actually happened was that two years ago, the Icelanders chased away Deygbam group from Ibaa community. The Icelanders took over the community. They even stopped the vigilante group in the area and said the security of the area would be managed by them.
