In his new book 'Goal: The ball doesn't go into the net by chance', former Barcelona executive Soriano discussed why Barca chose Pep over Mourinho in 2008.
Barca board devised a nine-point plan to analyze what they wanted from their future coach. Mourinho caused them a little worry when it came to point number six. "The coach is one of the club's permanent, weekly representatives," it said. "He must act cautiously at all times. Respect opponents, referees and other institutions in general - fair play. "He must not abuse the media or create false controversy, but focus on the relevant aspects of the game and how the team is doing."
However, we all know how Mourinho loves to pick fights with anybody he can, especially the media. Soriano further stressed that Pep loved to work with a group of 14-15 players who have his total confidence, whereas Mou loved to work in big groups, with lots of superstars.
On one hand, there was Mou, who had lots of experience. On the other there was Pep, who had complete idea how the Barca system works. And we all know, whom the Barca board went after! :D
