ARTIST- DANAGOG
Record Label – HKN Music (2016)
If this life were fair, and equity sits on the throne of mankind, Danagog ought to receive a medal for effort and participation in Nigerian music. The HKN singer is working his way up to building a collection with very little noise thrown into it.
It has taken him two years to drop his first original EP, “Hookah Dab” EP, which hit the ground running this year. But prior to that he had released the first of his covers and remixes mixtape “FFF” (Free For Fanagogs). Although with very little traction, he has remained undeterred from this path, and has come forward with the second volume of it.
“FFF 2” is Trap mix, with one original single ‘Iskebe’. Danagog digs into some of the popping Trap songs of 2016 to give it a different spin, with different DJs hosting it. ‘Girls in Lasgidi’ (Designer – ‘Panda’) explores the night life of Lagos, and the involvement of women and sex. He goes through the US chart, reworking the jam ‘All the way’ up by Fat Joe and Remy Ma.
‘Iskebe’, the only original track on the EP is a darkly infectious dance track with the drums and synths to make people move. This is the direction where Danagog is most inclined to go with his commercial releases. Dance is the main thing for this man.
Danagog does not intend for this “FFF2” to be a defining testament of his music ability. Instead, it serves as a pointer into how he spends his spare time, honing his talent, working a happy genre, and creating content for easy listening.
Based on this assessment, he wins. Heavily.
