BREAKING: FRANCE LAUNCH TERROR APP FOR EURO TOURNAMENT

France has launched an official terrorism app, which will inform people of any attacks during Euro 2016. The new service is intended to address many of the problems that came in the aftermath of the attacks in Paris in November. It will allow people to get information if phone networks are down, for instance, and it will also allow authorities to broadcast verified information and avoid misreporting.

Fears about terrorist attacks on Euro 2016 have grown in the lead-up to the beginning of the tournament. The Home Office warned travellers that there was a “high threat from terrorism” and that people should be vigilant, and a number of other agencies, including the US State Department, have suggested that people heading to the tournament might be in danger. If an attack does happen, the app will be able to alert people within 15 minutes, according to its makers.

Initially it will be ready to alert people to suspected attacks or security incidents that might result from them during Euro 2016 - but eventually the app will be updated to provide alerts about all major “natural and technological risks” and send people alerts. The app sends out the alerts by using geolocation to find out where people are, but users can also add eight different address areas that they would like to be kept up with news from. The alerts will both provide information about the attack as well as giving instructions on what to do.

Talking while driving is incredibly dangerous, even when using hands-free Talking on the phone in the car is dangerous even if you're on hands-free, according to a new study. All phones should be banned from cars, whether or not they are actually being held by the person using them, the new research from the University of Sussex suggests. It is having a voice engage people in conversation that makes people react badly to hazards, the research has found, rather than the actual act of using the phone. The study looked at volunteers who were asked to respond a range of driving hazards in a simulation. Those included pedestrians stepping into the road or cars coming up the wrong side of the road. People who had a voice that was looking to speak to them detected and reacted to half as many hazards, the research found.

Uber meters will start after two minutes Uber has rolled out new rules that will see its drivers start their virtual meters after two minutes of waiting. Previously, passengers had five minutes to get to their car. The announcement comes alongside a range of other changes that are intended to make drivers' jobs better and easier. Those include special ways of letting people find journeys that will take them nearer to their house, and a way of pausing requests for new journeys so that they can take a break. Uber said that it had made the move to “make driving more empowering and worth your while”. The company insists that its drivers are their own boss and aren't employees, and so keeping them on-board is important.

Instagram feed goes out of order as chronological feed arrives on users' apps Instagram feeds are finally going out of order, in the app's biggest ever shake-up. The site first announced in March that it would be introducing an algorithmic, rather than chronological, timeline. The decision prompted outcry and controversy, as people cooked up strange schemes to get around it. Many people objected to the new feed - which will use information like people's relationship with the poster and the amount of likes an update has to decide how high up to put it - arguing that it would ruin the usual way of scrolling through the app.

But now it will be rolling out over the next month, Instagram has announced. It said that the move had increased engagement with posts and so it had decided to install it permanently. “On average, people miss 70 per cent of their feeds,” Instagram wrote in a blog post. “It's become harder to keep up with all the photos and videos people share as Instagram has grown. Over the past few months, we brought this new way of ordering posts to a portion of the community, and we found that people are liking photos more, commenting more and generally engaging with the community in a more active way.
